There are two categories of membership: Member and Associate Member.
Admission to either category is at the discretion of Council.

Membership of the SMA is open to Membership of the Association is open to medical graduates, State Registered Clinical Scientists (or University Equivalent), State Registered Biomedical Scientists (BMSs) (or University equivalent), who practice Clinical Microbiology and who are employed in a health care role acceptable to the Council. Membership fee is £20 per year payabel by standing order.

Associate Membership is open to the following categories;
Trainee BMSs, expatriates, retired staff (including those who would have been eligible for full membership), those employed in related fields (eg. academic research, infection control, dental medicine, veterinary medicine, food industry, water industry). Associate membership fee is £10 payable by standing order.

Individuals must be (or have been) involved in a role that is (or was) relevant to clinical microbiology and is acceptable to the Council.

To apply for membership, please complete the membership form (*.pdf) and return to Martin Connor (details below). Once membership has been approved by Council, Martin will send out a bank madate form for completion and return to the member's bank.
