There will be two categories of membership: Member and Associate Member.
Admission to either category is at the discretion of the Council.

Membership of the SMA is open to medical graduates, Clinical Scientists or MLSOs in Grades 1,2,3, or 4. University equivalent post holders will be considered if they practice Clinical Microbiology and are employed in a health care role acceptable to the Council.

Associate Membership is open to the following categories;
Trainee MLSOs, expatriates, retired staff, those employed in related fields (eg. academic research, dental medicine, veterinary medicine, food industry, water industry)

Individuals must be (or have been) involved in a role that is (or was) relevant to clinical microbiology and is acceptable to the Council.
